April 2026 Community Central Connect

As we turn the calendar to April, the energy in the building is shifting. We are entering the "Final 45" days of the school year, which is both exciting and academically critical.

This month, our students in grades 3–11 will participate in the ISASP (Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress). While these assessments provide us with a valuable "snapshot" of our academic health, they are just one chapter of your child's story. Whether our students are mastering a new math standard in the classroom or practicing professional skills at one of our new OJT (On-the-Job) partner sites, we are proud of the diverse ways they are growing.

With the busyness that comes with warmer weather and longer days, students can feel the impact during the school day. This is especially noticeable during testing weeks, but it is just as important throughout the entire school year. Maintaining consistent routines helps students feel prepared and able to do their best each day. When expectations and daily structures remain predictable, students can focus their energy on learning rather than adjusting to change.

Small things at home make a meaningful difference. Consistent evening routines, regular attendance, and simple encouragement all support student success. Reinforcing the importance of effort, staying engaged, and following through on expectations helps students navigate this busy time of year with confidence.

Updates:

  • ISASP Window: As Central Community School District prepares for the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP) from April 13 through April 24, it is a good opportunity to reflect on how this assessment supports student learning and growth. The testing window provides students with a chance to demonstrate what they have learned throughout the year. The ISASP replaced the former Iowa Assessments (ITBS) and was developed by the University of Iowa to align with the Iowa Core Standards. The assessment focuses on skills that go beyond memorization, including critical thinking, writing, and applying knowledge to real-world situations.

The results from the ISASP provide helpful information for several purposes. First, teachers use the data to guide instructional planning by identifying areas where students have demonstrated strong understanding and areas that may need additional attention in the future. The results also allow us to track student growth over time, as the scores are reported on a continuous scale that shows progress from one grade level to the next. Finally, the assessment provides one measure of how our school district is performing in comparison with others across the state.

Families play an important role in helping students feel prepared and confident during testing. Ensuring students are well rested, well fed, and ready to focus can make a meaningful difference. Encouraging a consistent sleep routine, providing a healthy breakfast, and sending students with a water bottle can help them stay energized and focused during the school day. It is also helpful to keep the message simple and positive by reminding students that the goal is simply to do their best and show what they have learned.

Attendance during the testing window is also important. Whenever possible, families are encouraged to avoid scheduling morning appointments during this time so students can test with their classmates rather than completing a make-up session later. Finally, for students who bring their school-owned device home, please help them to remember to have it fully charged and ready to go for the following day.

We appreciate your partnership in supporting students during this time and look forward to celebrating the growth our students have made throughout the school year.

  • Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) Art Show: Central Elkader [Headquarters] is excited to host our annual UIC Art Show this year-- Operation: Art of Espionage. We grant you special access to our highly classified operation on April 8th! We're leaning into a fun spy theme this year-- the display will be open for public viewing 7:30am-4:00pm in Central's small gym.

Action Requested:

  • We invite you to observe closely and celebrate the dedication and imagination of nearly 200 student agents.

  • Be sure to vote for the "People's Choice Award" after viewing the show.

We hope you enjoy the mission and appreciate your support for our agents in the field.
