Rick was a 1967 graduate from Central Community Schools. While in high school Rick was very involved in many different activities. Rick was his senior class president, a member of the national honor society and student council, and was his class's homecoming king!
Rick was also involved in football and wrestling. Rick was a three year letter winner in football where he earned many accolades such as first team all conference and received an honorable mention from the Des Moines Register. In wrestling Rick was a four year letter winner. During his junior season, Rick helped lead his team to a conference wrestling title. Individually that season he was the heavyweight conference champ and was the runner up at sectionals. In his senior season Rick helped lead his team to another conference title and an undefeated record in their dual meets! This team even managed shutouts in three of those meets! Individually in his senior season Rick finished with a record of 27-2. He placed first at conference and sectional meets, and was the runner up at the state meet! Rick is the only Central student to have made it to the state finals in wrestling!
Following high school Rick attended the University of Northern Iowa. After graduation he taught general, life and earth science in Waterloo and Oelwein. In 1976, Rick received his masters in communications media. He taught photography and video classes for a year before finishing his career at Arrowhead AEA and Prairie Lakes AEA in their Media Division.
Rick’s wife was also a University of Northern Iowa graduate, who had a career as a school speech pathologist. Together they have two children, Kris and Ryan. Kris is a school occupational therapist and Ryan is an Assistant City Manager.
