Thank you again to Brown’s Family of Car Dealership for supporting our student-of-the-month program. These programs allow us to recognize one student-athlete and one Fine Arts student for individual character and habits that lead to success.
The February Student-Athlete of the Month is recognized for overcoming adversity and injury while assuming a major role on the Varsity team this season. Due to time missed with the injury there has been a big learning curve this season in which this student-athlete remained very coachable. The coaches have shared, “whenever feedback was given or he needed to do something, the response was always “yes, coach” and came with no excuses and no complaints.” Due to his level of coachability and being responsible enough to hold himself to a high standard, this student-athlete improved greatly throughout the season. His consistent positivity and respectful attitude make him a high-level teammate and a joy to coach. The February Student-Athlete of the Month is Tate Berns.
Today we have Iowa FFA State Officer, Avery Hanaway and NW Sub-District FFA Vice President, John Moellers spending the day in Mrs. Bond's classes to learn about leadership and teamwork! Great way to celebrate Thursday of National FFA Week!

The February Fine Arts Student of the Month is described by their coaches as hard-working, determined, personable, polite, open-minded, and striving to do their best. This student works hard in multiple areas of the fine arts. They have been a leader in helping prepare ensembles, showing up to nearly every rehearsal or communicating if they will be gone. They are great with brainstorming ideas and were an integral part of preparing the Variety Show at the Fine Arts Carnival this year. Despite having a busy schedule with athletics, this student has demonstrated a passion for Fine Arts and working on figuring out the best way to be involved in both and represent them both at a high level. Today the Central Community FFA members handed out commodity bags courtesy of the Clayton County Corn Growers. Items included were butter, cheese stick, meat stick, soy nuts, popcorn, soap, chewing gum, and hand sanitizer.
The UIC Individual Speech Contest for this evening has been canceled and will not be made up.
On Saturday, Feb. 19th, All-State members of the Large Group Speech Team were able to attend the IHSSA LG Speech All-State Festival at Iowa State University in Ames. Readers Theatre received their non-performing All-State honors and were able to see several outstanding events. The Radio Broadcasting group was able to present their piece for KCCI (Des Moines) reporter and anchor, Eric Hanson, and received great comments and laughs from the audience on their satirical and comedic piece, W-E-N-D. While they didn’t receive the Radio Broadcasting banner, they still represented Central at its finest. Congratulations LG Speech Team on this high honor!

The JH boys basketball game for tonight has been cancelled. The boys will practice from 3:45-5:00 today.
Last week #ClaytonCountyBEST student were invited to MFL MarMac to have lunch with the newly launched MORE program that is similar to Central’s Clayton County BEST program. Student were able to share their experiences and compare notes.
In Makerspace, this 2nd grader turned her perler beads into earrings. She’s now considering starting her own online store.

Jillian Webb Hermann visited our art class today with her photography. It was very interesting and engaging. She started with sharing a few basics about photography and some of her favorite things about it, personally and professionally. She ended the period with a fun, mini photo shoot of the class to demonstrate the importance of lighting and will also give us the gallery of images! Congratulations to the girls basketball team on advancing to the Regional Semi-Final! The game is on Friday, February 18 at East Buchanan High School.
