The March Student-Athlete of the Month stands out amongst their peers due to their self-motivated approach. The coaches have noted that this student-athlete does not have to be reminded about details of a workout or tasks that need to be completed. Their positive attitude and great work ethic shines through both in athletics and in school where grades and attendance are never an issue. Finally, because they lead by example this student-athlete has been able to hold teammates accountable so far this season. The March Student-Athlete of the Month is Gavin Holst.

The March Fine Arts Student of the Month is someone who wasn’t even on the radar for this recognition in the past. This student has done a great job in past Fine Arts roles, and recently has been a standout in their most recent Fine Arts role. Coaches and teachers have raved about this students attendance, leadership, and ability and willingness to provide sensible suggestions and solutions. This student is willing to ask necessary questions to improve their understanding of what they need to do to maximize their performance. A teacher noted that when asked to do something this student never asks “why?” or “do I have to?”, they embrace the challenge and give their best effort. Finally, the decision to show up every day with a positive attitude is a conscious choice this student has made. The March Fine Arts Student of the Month is Nate Shirbroun.

Since 1983, April has been observed as School Library Month. While school librarians advocate for school libraries twelve months a. year, April is a special time of celebration, advocacy and reflection. Libraries play a very important role in our student’s lives, often considered the main center of our children’s learning and development. These spaces create homes for books, archives and many educational resources. This is a great time to recognize and support the educators that keep our libraries at Central operating. Thank you Mrs. Healy, Ms. French and Mrs. Klingman for all you do!

20 high school and 5 middle school artworks are selected and entered into the Upper Iowa Conference virtual art show! Online judging of different categories will take place next week. Best of luck to our student participants.

Today, the Central Community Scholarship Foundation committee interviewed 16 applicants for the Tappan Scholarship. Sue Stott, Sara Hertrampf, and John Finley took time out of their schedules to spend the entire day here at Central. We want to thank them for their support and dedication to our students.
We also want to thank the two 6th graders, Zoey and Aubry who made lunch for the committee in the Central Maker Space.

Art therapy with Karen Misseldine was an amazing way to start our Monday morning this week. Her calming presence and positive perspective was very refreshing in art fundamentals. The students broke out of their comfort zones a bit and did an exercise with her in the form of creating art through observation of a blank piece of paper; capturing and relating their feelings and emotions.

The Madagascar Hissing cockroaches are back.... Mrs. Bergan's 6th grade science class has been 'invade' by many hissing cockroaches. We got them out today to 'play' and observe. We have 5 babies, 1 'toddler' and over 20 adults if any parents want to come 'play' and observe.

Ask your elementary students about Coach Sloth! Coach Sloth is an Iowa native who played college and arena football, played a football player in 5 movies and is now a children's author.
Coach Sloth's presentation was about the writing process, the importance of reading and the value of hard work. His books and presentation also have an anti-bullying message.
If you have not already ordered any books by this amazing author, check your email or send your student to the elementary office for an order form!
Thank you, Coach Sloth, for your time and perspective!
