Can you hear the excitement coming from Central today!?
Joe Beckman is here, and the 3rd-8th grade students are having a blast this morning!
The fun is going to continue through the afternoon. Stay tuned!

Each year the fifth grade students participate in a Flag Essay Contest where they do some research to better understand the history behind the flag, as well as include their personal thoughts and experiences relating to it. Judges review the essays and select the top three from the grade. Today the local American Legion members spoke to the fourth and fifth graders about the reason behind the contest, as well as recognized the top three essay winners. This years top three finishers were:
3rd Place- Ty
2nd Place- Nolan
1st Place- Ayce
Congratulations!

Central Warriors, this is a friendly reminder that guest presenter Joe Beckman will be here tomorrow. We are very excited to have him meet with our students and staff. To accommodate Joe we will run a 1:45pm early dismissal on both Thursday and Friday of this week. Please call the district office with any questions.

The past few years we have put a heavy emphasis on building stronger relationships at Central. Our next step in doing so is to tell you a little about ourselves! Each week you will see posts highlighting a team member. Feel free to comment to tell us what we have in common!
Meet Mrs. Reierson

Kindergarten “donut” prints will be on display at Pedretti’s Bakery starting TODAY and will be up the week of January 23rd! View your child’s artwork to support our little artists when you stop in for a sweet treat. Each participating artist can also claim their free cake donut, courtesy of the bakery.
Printmaking is a technique that allows kids to see cause and effect in action! It is an artistic process of transferring images onto another surface, like a stamp. In which this case was a very introductory level by using the end of a pool noodle, dipped into paint, to then press to paper. Next they added their "frosting" using paintbrushes and lastly, the decorative embellishments - aka "sprinkles". They look so good you want to just eat them.
Artwork is also uploaded to artsonia and can be viewed here: https://tinyurl.com/3x64rkr5

Tune in at 5:00 PM tonight to watch Central students at the Meistersinger Honor Choir Festival.

Monthly FFA Meeting

Thank you again to Brown's Sales & Leasing in Elkader for supporting our student-of-the-month program. These programs allow us to recognize one Student-Athlete and one Fine Arts student for individual character and habits that lead to success. Thanks to Beth Rentschler, Director of High School Partnerships, for attending our assembly.
The January Fine Arts Student of the Month is described as a student who is very enthusiastic about the Fine Arts activities they are involved in. A strong work ethic and a great student in the classroom are descriptors that fit this student well. Teachers have noticed the initiative this student takes toward self-improvement. They are very focused during class and works hard outside of class time to improve. This detail-oriented approach combined with creative skills are the cherry on top of just being a great person who is positive, friendly, and frequently smiling! The January Fine Arts Student of the Month is Layla Embretson.

The January Student-Athlete of the Month is described by the coaches as “first and foremost, a great teammate.” The coaches also commented on the outstanding leadership this student-athlete has brought to the team. When you watch them compete you will see this person rooting for teammates to have success and going out of the way to give them advice on how to improve their performance. More importantly, this person is a leader outside of the words during competition. This student-athlete has been a great role model through daily actions and which has earned the trust and respect of teammates. The coaches shared, “Gaining this level of trust is a process that takes time. It does not happen through a singular event. It takes modeling a strong work ethic, responding to adversity, and doing the right thing inside and outside of the gym regardless of who is watching.” Finally, this student has no interest in individual accolades and is solely focused on the success of the team, making them a great candidate for this award. The January Student-Athlete of the Month is Elliot Kelly.

The December Student-Athlete of the Month is a great example of a person putting extra time in to make themself and the team better. This student-athlete has put in extra effort in the off season, being accountable, and preparing for the season both in skills and the weight room. Her coaches have noted her consistent approach in preparing for every single game. Her desire to help the team be successful is a great example of student leadership. She shows an understanding of the game by studying opponents, knowing their strengths and weaknesses, and setting herself and team up for success. The December Student-Athlete of the Month is Delaney Scherf.
