Wednesday, February 26 - Girls Basketball Regional Final
A few details:
- Central plays St. Ansgar @ New Hampton High School
- Game starts at 7:00 PM
- Central fans should plan to arrive between 6:10-6:20.
- It's a BLACK OUT (Central fans wear black!)
A little history and some numbers:
- Central has played 5-on-5 girls basketball for 27 years (93-94 season). In the previous 26 seasons, Central never won more than 14 games. So far this year Central has won 21.
- This season there are 120 schools in 1A girls basketball. Central is one of only 8 teams that have won 21 games or more.
- Central is one of 16 teams to win their last three games. On Wednesday we will play for a ticket to Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines where 8 of the original 120 teams will compete for a State Championship.
- The last (and only) time Central qualified for the State Tournament was in 1977 (6-on-6).
In a game such as this every detail matters. Everyone involved has to focus on their job and do it to the best of their ability. As fans our job is to be physically present and cheer loud. Research has shown that a large, loud fan base has the ability to enhance the concentration of the players on the court while weakening the mind and spirit of the opponent. That is a job that can only be done by those who are physically present at the game. Whether you have been to every game this season or if this will be the first one, we strongly encourage you to come!
There are moments in life you never forget. Watching Central Girls Basketball qualify for the State Tournament is going to be one of them.
See you at the game!

A few months back the Central fifth grade class participated in the flag essay contest. This contest is done yearly and schools across the state of Iowa participate. Each fifth grade student wrote a one page essay describing the history of the flag, what it represents, what it means to them as well as any other information or memories they wanted to include. This contest allows for fifth graders to learn more about the flag as well as gain a deeper appreciation for it. Today the award ceremony was conducted in order to recognize this years top essays. The top four essays for this year's fifth grade class were:
1st place- Jaden
2nd place- Crystal
3rd place- Brandon (not shown in picture)
4th place- Mikayla
