On Saturday, April 12th, twenty-four Central musicians will travel to Clayton Ridge to perform at the IHSMA State Solo-Ensemble Festival. This is one of the most challenging events of the year, and the students have been working hard to prepare. The first Central performance begins at 8:15 AM, and the final one wraps up at 3:40 PM. Throughout the day, you’ll have the chance to hear incredible music from some of the area’s most dedicated student performers. We’d love to see lots of familiar faces in the audience cheering them on—your support means the world to these young musicians!

Central's 6th grade class had a guest speaker today. Live from South Korea. Central alum and former Central teacher, Derek Bergan. Derek stayed up late to visit and answer student questions that we sent last week. He taught us some Korean words.

This morning Central hosted the 4th annual "UIC Powerlifting Competition". This event was started with a vision to promote strength training across the Upper Iowa Conference. Today students from Central, Clayton Ridge, Waukon, West Central, South Winn, North Fayette Valley, Postville, and Kee got together to compete in Deadlift, Bench Press, and Squat. This was a very positive event with everyone cheering for one another and nearly everyone walking away saying, "I PR'd at Central today!!!" ALOFTD students had a great day at Effigy Mounds yesterday. It was a bit chilly and breezy, but the Central and Kee students were troopers and did an awesome job of participating in the discussions! Many thanks to Brian Gibbs for sharing his expertise and allowing us to eat our lunch in the auditorium so we could warm up a bit! We all hiked about 5 miles (half of it up hill!) Thank you to Albert (archeologist) for sharing information about the mounds as we hiked up to the overlook. Students were able to try out ATLATL. This involved using Authentic Indigenous tribe arrows that were the precursor to modern bow and arrows! Thank you Devin (anthropologist) for sharing your expertise with us! We also walked the boardwalk over the Yellow River and surrounding wetlands. The birdsongs were amazing. Even if it was a bit chilly, they certainly let us know that spring is in the air. Thanks also goes out to Fred Schaffer for transporting Central students!

Mr. Stramer's 5th grade class was fortunate enough to have Dana Burns from Freedom Bank come in for Junior Achievement lessons over the course of the last few weeks. Students were able to learn about the free market system, where some everyday items are made and come from, and important employability skills. In the last session students were spoiled with cookies and given certificates as a reward for their work over the course of the program. Lots of learning and lots of fun was had! Thank you to Dana Burns and Freedom Bank for coming into our classroom!
