The Central Torch Chapter of the National Honor Society held a Veterans Day program today. This group of students did an amazing job! It was a pleasure seeing these future leaders taking on the many tasks it took to put this program together. Our NHS students did a great job of making the Veterans feel welcome here at Central. The NHS students and Central staff want to thank all the veterans who participated in and attended our program.

K-6 October CCS Winners spent an afternoon at the Humane Society of Northeast Iowa learning about facility operations, the unfortunate situations on why an animal may be placed there, and the importance for these animals finding their forever homes. Students quickly fell in love with the sweet, playful, and curious cats. They also met a Siberian Husky, named Keeley. Keeley quickly became a favorite and students couldn’t believe how smart, playful, and well trained she already was. For more information about HSNEI and the animals, visit hsnei.org

Rake and Run A group of Central FFA members lead by Gavin Holst and Tate Berns, did a community service project where they raked some elderly peoples yards. There were a total of 16 members and one guest that helped with the project. In a span of 2 hours, they had completed 6 total yards, and enjoyed some pizza afterwards. Shannon Everitt was the chaperone for the project.

Thank you to Brown’s Family of Car Dealership for continuing to supporting our student-of-the-month program. These programs allow us to recognize one Student-Athlete and one Fine Arts student for individual character and habits that lead to success and thank you to Beth Rentschler, Director of High School Partnerships, for attending our monthly assembly. The October Student-Athlete of the Month is recognized for continuous improvement during the season. Coaches have said, “he is always listening and trying to improve his skill set using feedback provided by coaches.” The role on the team was not always huge, but his continuous focus on preparation allowed him to sub for an injured teammate at the end of the season and have his best performance of the year. The October Student-Athlete of the Month is Michael White.
