STUDENT SECTION UPDATE: We are going to try a change in location for the Student Section for this week's games. Not too many years ago the students sat in the first section of bleachers as you walk into the gym. We are going to move the students back to the first section of bleachers for this week's home basketball games to try this location again before next season. The reason for the change is the limited visibility of the court for the rest of the spectators when our student section is full and standing. Students, take this as a compliment, your presence is large and noticeable! It is important we maintain that same presence while also allowing those who choose to sit to still see the game. See you all tonight!

Local artist, Andrea Seitz shared her pressed flower creations with the Art Fundamentals class for “Workshop Wednesday”. The students were able to make some of their own floral designs and had a lot of fun learning about this new medium and what it’s like to be a working artist. Congratulations to the Central Large Group Speech Team on their outstanding performances today at the IHSSA State Contest in Decorah! Each group that competed at State on the Central team performed their absolute best and wowed audiences from both Central and other schools. All 5 groups that competed today earned overall Div. 1 (Excellent) ratings for their performances. In addition to the overall Div. 1's, each group received a Div. 1 rating from all three judges for three straight one's. This is a rare accomplishment to have each group from one team that performs at the state level earn all Div. 1's. Each student worked hard and gave it their all like the fantastic humans they are. Congratulations to the following groups on an outstanding day of performing! The January Fine Arts Student of the Month is described by their coaches as dependable, hard-working, and very dedicated to helping grow Central’s fine arts programs. This student works extremely hard in multiple areas of the fine arts both inside and outside the school building. They have been a leader in helping prepare ensembles, Large Group Speech groups, and figuring out solutions to any problems that come up. They are consistent with communication, brainstorming ideas, and trying to take the Central Fine Arts to the next level. They have also dedicated themselves to outside events with honor choir participation and a lesson with a professor to develop their own voice. Throughout the year, they have helped the fine arts departments with ideas to grow, organize, and help to make Central’s fine arts as successful as possible. The January Fine Arts Student of the Month is Alivia Keppler. Thank you again to Brown’s Family of Car Dealership for supporting our student-of-the-month program. These programs allow us to recognize one student-athlete and one Fine Arts student for individual character and habits that lead to success.

The January Student-Athlete of the Month is described as a leader amongst the team. Work ethic in practice and the ability to remain positive and overcome adversity were key characteristics the coaches identified with this student-athlete. The coaches also referred to the consistency this student-athlete brings each day in their desire to be competitive. Most importantly, at the end of the first semester this student-athlete stood out as someone who has applied all of these same characteristics to the classroom as well. The January Student-Athlete of the Month is Rebecca Suhr.

NICC welding students are using destructive and non-destructive testing methods to find weld defects and/or sound practice with no defects present in their welds. In these examples acid etching shows the weld metal penetration compared to the base metal of a cross-sectioned T Joint. Red dye penetrant also verifies a crack in part of a weld bead that was hard to verify by visual inspection only.
