Central High School students competed in the District contest for Individual Events Speech, Feb. 27, at MFL MarMac. This was a make-up date for a make-up date. Central took 10 students who performed in 16 events. Of these, 12 events/8 students qualified for state competition that will be held at Waldorf University in Forest City on March 9. Events in which Central students were involved included Interpretive Reading Poetry, Interpretive Reading Prose, Spontaneous Speaking, Expository Address, After Dinner Speaking, Public Address, Solo Musical Theatre, Storytelling, Improvisational Acting, and Radio News Announcing. Each individual performs before a judge who gives them comments and a 1, 2, 3, or 4 rating. Students must receive a 1 rating to advance to state. Central received 12 1-ratings and 4 2-ratings.
Central 4th graders enjoyed their Junior Achievement program with their volunteer, Ann McCorkindale. Students were taught 5 lessons where they learned all about entrepreneurship. Students were able to create their own business while learning about resources, supply chains, and problem solving strategies.
