Fifth graders earned their third quarter reading goals and enjoyed some park time before winter sets back in!

Third graders are in the middle of their Junior Achievement lessons led by local volunteer, Danielle Shea. Here the students are learning what it means to be an entrepreneur by creating their own food trucks.

Tomorrow is March 21 (3-21) and the date not only represents World Down Syndrome Day, but also the extra chromosome that people with Down Syndrome carry. Most of us are born with 23 pairs of chromosomes, but people with Down Syndrome are born with 3 copies of their 21st chromosome.
Why crazy socks? When looking at a karyotype (a picture of our chromosomes, stained for viewing under a microscope), the chromosomes look like paired socks. The staining makes them look striped, appearing much like crazy, mismatched socks. Pictured here with Isabella, are chromosomes that we are referring to. Can you see where the idea came from???
Wearing crazy socks doesn’t stop there! People like the idea of mismatched socks to promote the celebration of our differences. Wearing fun and bright socks is also a great reminder of the joy that people with Down Syndrome bring to the lives of many daily. Plus, who doesn’t have a pair of mismatched socks, so this is something in which anyone can easily participate.
Central Warriors, tomorrow's the day! Let's see all the crazy socks!!! #RockYourSocks #WorldDownSyndromeDay

In 5th grade, students are learning about the rotation of the Earth. Student wore North America on the front and Asia on the back and rotated around the sun they made on their axis. They also realized that if they stopped just at the point they could see the sun, it was sunrise and the opposite for sunset. What was happening in Asia during this time though? Students where able to see that it was the exact opposite of where we are now. Physically moving to understand a concept is one of the great ways to learn!

As we begin the official countdown to graduation day, please help us celebrate Central's Class of 2024! Congratulations to Senior - Noah Diersen

Mrs. Stannard’s 5th grade class earned a pizza party for raising their winter district reading scores! We decided to do it as a group because everyone did so well and we wanted to celebrate together. Students enjoyed eating in the classroom and juice from Mrs. Stannard.
Thank you for the support from the Elkader Pizzeria and other community businesses that provide incentives for our students!

Hey Warrior Families, looking for something fun to do this weekend? The Elkader Chamber of Commerce is hosting an "Easter Basket" Search. Students PK - 6th grade may register at Mascara Park.

The Central Spanish Club will have eight students heading to Guatemala and Belize this coming June and they NEED OUR HELP! Please consider joining them one of the next two Friday nights at TD's Bar & Grill, as they will be the guest waitstaff for the evening and all tips received will go directly towards this year's trip. Thanks for supporting our Warriors!!!
