Nurse Meghan has Central Junior, Alyssa Schmitt "job shadowing" today. This experience is part of Mrs. Stevenson's Pre-employment Strategies class. Each student in the class is required to complete a 3 or more hour job shadowing of a job of their choice to obtain more information to determine future career ideas.

The CCS winners took a trip to Think Custom yesterday. This is what the kids had to say:
At the CCS trip we learned how to make stickers, put labels on shirts, and put details on hats. We enjoyed the trip very much because the people were nice, kind, and helpful. It was fun to see all of the things that the employees do for work on a daily basis. Highlight was making our own shirts.
Thank you to Think Custom for the fun trip and new Central gear!

Central is excited to announce that we will be hosting a couple of WarEagle games in Elkader this year! Mark your calendars and be sure to come out and show our boys your support!

Central CSD is pleased to announce that Central Senior, Jordan Everitt has been selected as a Finalist for the 2024 Iowa FFA Stars over Iowa. This is an outstanding accomplishment and we couldn't be more proud!
Central Ag Teacher, Mrs. Meghan Bond has been a big part of Jordan's life over the last four years and when asked about his most recent recognition, she shared the following:
"When Jordan was a freshman and I was a new teacher at Central, I recall his parents and I meeting about my vision of agricultural education at Central and what opportunities I had in mind for the students. Joel, Shannon and I met and we talked about Jordan's future goals. He made it very clear that he wanted to be just like his dad. After learning what dad's career was, I learned that Jordan wanted to become an auctioneer and buy and sell farm equipment. This led to a conversation about how agricultural education could give Jordan skills to pursue his plans to do just what his dad does. Joel still jokes with me that it is my fault for giving Jordan the idea to start his own business of buying and selling equipment and that I implanted that idea into his head when Jordan was a freshman. And it is true, I did. That very moment, I knew the potential of an SAE (Supervised Agricultural Experience) project in Ag Services and Sales for Jordan and the potential achievements along with the skills he would learn along the way. Four years later, Jordan is a state champion in the proficiency area of Ag Services and a Stars over Iowa Finalist in Agribusiness in addition to being an Iowa FFA Degree recipient."
"Agricultural education teachers across the state push their FFA members with outstanding SAE projects to apply for a Star Over Iowa. These are the most elite SAE projects within the chapters across the state of Iowa. The FFA member can only apply for a Star Over Iowa the year they apply for their Iowa FFA Degree. After Jordan applied, then a committee of judges narrowed down the applicants to six finalists. Jordan is a finalist! In April Jordan will interview and one of the six finalists will be selected for the Star Over Iowa in the area of Agribusiness."
"Simply put, being a finalist for Star Over Iowa signifies that Jordan has one of the best SAE projects of all the Iowa FFA Degree recipients for this spring. To begin, less than 5% of all FFA members get their Iowa Degree. Last year our state had 683 Iowa FFA Degrees. The Stars Over Iowa finalists are the most elite SAE projects of those Iowa FFA Degrees for this spring. In my career of teaching, I have only had two SAE projects that I felt were competitive for the Star Over Iowa award. Each student did make it to be a finalist. The finalist will then be chosen after an interview and will be announced at the 96th Iowa FFA Leadership Conference on Tuesday, April 16, 2024."
"Looking into the future, if I get my goals for Jordan accomplished, next year he will apply for a proficiency in the area of Ag Sales, apply for his American FFA Degree, and apply to be an American Star in Agribusiness. His SAE is the caliber needed to compete well in these areas at the national level and I am excited to mentor him at this level! This is a huge honor not only for him but for our school's agricultural education program and school."

Central had the pleasure of having three high school band members attend the Dorian Honor Band over the last couple of days. The kids are tired, but had a great time meeting new people and getting to perform at Luther College last night!

Testimonial Tuesday - From time to time, we receive feedback from people who have recently been provided great guidance and support or experienced something worth mentioning. Promoting positive experiences is something we feel should not only be focused on, but shared with all of you. Today's testimonial was shared with Central's Business Manager, following a new family moving into the district and starting school at Central.
If you have recently had an experience that you feel is worth noting, please email administration and share what positive impact has been made on your student and or family. We always enjoy hearing about these experiences!

This has become a tradition during winter break practices for the Girls Basketball Program. Congratulations Brooklyn!!!

This week has been overwhelmingly high with absences related to illness. We have seen the following diagnoses: Influenza A, Influenza B, Strep throat, stomach flu, Conjunctivitis (pink eye). Below are the statistics for the last few days related to illness.
How can everyone help?
Encourage hand washing; make sure your children are getting adequate rest, fluids and nutrition; teach your children to cover their coughs and sneezes and monitor closely for symptoms related to illness. If your child is displaying symptoms of illness, please keep them home.
Per our school policy, please keep your children home from school for 24 hours after any episode of vomiting, diarrhea or fever (100 F or higher). Your children can return once that symptom and fever has been resolved for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication.
Aside from meeting our school policy guidelines, your children should be able to participate comfortably and be close to their baseline. An extra day of rest after meeting guidelines is best if possible.
For more information about Influenza symptoms, visit: https://www.cdc.gov/flu/index.htm and for more information regarding exclusion criteria, visit: https://hhs.iowa.gov/media/2819/download?inline=
Thank you for your help in trying to keep our students healthy,
Sincerely,
Nurse Meghan
