This year, Central's 7-12 assemblies have a heavy emphasis about being WORTHY! Finding and appreciating the value within ourselves and others.
March's "Worthy Wednesday" assembly theme was about "March into Motivation" and learning about Enneagrams [personality types] to gain a better understanding of your areas of weakness to help you take advantage of and utilize your strengths as we head into the home stretch of our school year for a strong finish!
The senior class was our "Price is Right" game show prize winners for some extra fun and activities at school which include: an ice cream social, Pedretti's before class, being 1st to lunch for the whole month, and ending the month with a trip to the Elkader Cinema for a movie showing.
Our 3 worthy warrior winners are pictured here!
These students regularly follow and act according to Central's CCS [Caring, Committed, Safety] guidelines for making positive choices. Throughout the month, they are nominated by teachers and from the list of nominations, 1 winner is randomly selected from each grade category. The 3 winning students receive a prize package for their excellence, and every student on the list receives a piece of "Werther's" candy and a WORTHY sticker.
7/8 - Blair Scherf
9/10 - Rayanne Dunlap
11/12 - Alyssa Schmitt

Dear Parents/Guardians,
We have seen scattered cases of Conjunctivitis (also known as pink eye) throughout the school in the last couple of weeks, but significantly higher cases this week. Pink eye is a highly contagious illness of the eye(s). We are asking that you take a minute each morning to assess your children. If you notice any of the following, please keep your child home from school:
-Red, blood-shot eye(s)
-Yellow or green drainage or dried matter in or around the eye(s)
-Itching or burning in the eye(s)
-Pain or swelling around the eyes (usually from itching or rubbing the eye(s))
If your child has any of these symptoms, he/she could have pink eye and your family provider should be to be contacted to set up an evaluation/treatment.
How can you help control the spread?
-Careful and thorough hand washing before and after touching the eyes, nose, and mouth.
-Careful disinfection of objects that are commonly touched by hands or faces such as table, doorknobs, telephones, and toys.
-People with white or yellow discharge or significant redness should see their healthcare provider for assessment before returning to school. Students with bacterial conjunctivitis may return to school after a full 24 hours on antibiotics. Viral conjunctivitis may return upon provider’s discretion, usually after the acute stage.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me,
Thanks for your help in assisting with prevention of illness in our children,

Rise and Shine, Central Warriors! Today is the start of National School Breakfast Week - A week to bring awareness and highlight the importance of eating a good breakfast before each school day begins. Central Community School District is very fortunate to have three fantastic custodians on staff and our Head of Maintenance title belongs to Mr. Eric Bond. Mr. Bond is most definitely an unsung hero in the school. From the countless calls he receives daily, “Office to Eric” with unexpected surprises, messy clean-ups, and interruptions, he wears many hats throughout the day. With the custodial staff under his belt, throw in 485 students, 80+ staff members, 40+ coaches, two school buildings, grounds, and our sports complexes, it’s safe to say, Mr. Bond has zero downtime, and we greatly appreciate all the hard work he puts into keeping Central what it is! Thank you, Mr. Bond… We appreciate YOU!

Central had four middle school students compete at AAU Girls State in Cedar Rapids this weekend. Tenley Bormann and Mylee Mueller both placed seventh in their bracket. Kendall Wagner placed eighth while Ella Frieden was one match away from placing. Nice work, Warriors!

School Social Workers are in a league of their own. Tomorrow kicks off National School Social Worker Week and a continued month of appreciation for our own Family Liaison doesn’t seem like enough. Mrs. Heather Lechtenberg serves as Central’s School Social Worker. The dedication and support that she provides to our students and Warrior Families is beyond amazing. Tireless work, providing guidance, kindness and love in often challenging situations is part of the daily grind.
Please help us give a BIG THANKS to Central’s School Social Worker and show our appreciation this week, especially!
Have you met Mrs. Lechtenberg? How has she helped you and/or your student? If Mrs. Lechtenberg has impacted you or your family in any way, we would love to hear about it.
