Central represents at KPEC 2023, presenting on "Creating Highly Effective Building Leadership Teams".
Once a requirement, they continued with our BLT model because of the productive leadership our monthly meetings provided in determining current reality, goals for the future and how to reach those goals. Today, the presenters pictured here: Aaron Reinhart, Staci Schmeling, Staci Grau, Ann Gritzner, Kelly Erickson, Heather Lechtenberg, Ryan Zurbriggen, shared how Central builds a culture of collaborative decision-making and shared leadership.

Central has three students that recently joined the Clayton Ridge Drill Team. Congrats to Peyton, Gracie and Madylen! This morning, we caught a small group of them preparing for some of the local, upcoming summer parades. You can catch the entire Clayton Ridge Drill Team in the Guttenberg Stars & Stripes Celebration Parade on July 1st, in Garnavillo for the 4th of July Celebration and at Elkader Sweet Corn Days at the end of July.

Please note, the Business Office will be closed over the 4th of July Holiday Weekend.

The past few years we have put a heavy emphasis on building stronger relationships at Central. Our next step in doing so is to tell you a little about ourselves!
Ms. Keya Welch was recently hired for the 2023-2024 school year as a new preschool teacher. She jumped in right away as a Central Warrior, serving as the assistant coach for our high school girls’ softball team.
Please help us give a warm welcome to one of Central’s newest team members, Ms. Welch!

The Central Community Alumni Hall of Fame is an honored Homecoming tradition that has taken place at Central since 1968. Hall of Famers are chosen by a committee of Central Student Council members and staff after reviewing nominations. Hall of Famers must meet the following criteria: Be a graduate of Central Community Schools, have found success in their chosen field following high school, and embody Central’s Core Values of growth mindset, respectful communication, and team positivity.
The 2023 Central Hall of Fame Inductee has been selected! Please help us congratulate Mr. Dennis Maggert as the newest member of Central Community School District’s Hall of Fame Inductees!
Dennis currently lives in Billings, Montana with his wife, Karen (Buckner) Maggert of fifty-three years. They have two daughters, Kristine and Lyndsay and they have five grandchildren, Madisen, Emily, Ian, Miah and Noah.
After graduating high school from Central in 1969, Dennis attended Ellsworth Junior College in Iowa Falls. He then moved to Billings, Montana to attend Eastern Montana, recently renamed as MSU Billings. Upon his college graduation, Dennis began his teaching career at Lockwood Junior High, where he taught PE and Health for twenty-five years. During those years, Dennis served as a junior high coach for the football and baseball teams, helped with the basketball and wrestling programs, as well as filled the role of athletic director, before retiring in 2001. His coaching experience also led him to coaching baseball for young men, aged 14-18 for the American Legion. Following retirement from teaching, Dennis worked in the warehouse at John Deere for fifteen years.
Dennis has worked hard through the years to build relationships with his students and making connections to last a lifetime. At a young age, Dennis lived on his own and worked diligently to make it through school. Because of his upbringing, he has always looked out for and had a special connection with those kids who needed a bit more attention or who did not have all the benefits of growing up in a stable home.
Dennis considers his mentors to be Merrill Hyde, Reid Dillon and Jim Gilpin, all coaches he had during his high school years at Central. He also has looked up to Robert Buckner, Thor Fisko and Tom Hamilton, three men that helped Dennis grow into the man he is today. The help of all these men as role models in Dennis’ life truly made a difference. Everyone needs a helping hand and Dennis took that to heart as he has paid it forward through the years, dedicating himself to help guide many young men in times of need. There may not be a lot of money in coaching, but he believes the tremendous reward comes from watching the progress of these young boys growing up into successful men.
Congrats to Dennis Maggert, Central’s newest Hall of Famer! Look for more from Dennis at Central’s 2023 Homecoming Festivities!
