This school year the Central Torch Chapter of the National Honor Society hosted two blood drives for the American Red Cross due to the national blood shortage. Between the two blood drives we hosted this year, a total of 121 units of blood were collected from students, staff, and community members that went to patients at nearby hospitals. In addition two of our seniors, Delaney Scherf and Katelyn Scherf, went above and beyond by hosting two student led blood drives. The units of blood collected from these two additional blood drives increased the total amount for Central School to 219 units of blood. Central Community School received a Certificate of Recognition for our commitment and dedication to the American Red Cross Premier Blood Partner Program!

Some Clayton County BEST students started their school day a little earlier this morning and finished up an ongoing project that started at the beginning of the year. Levi Miller and Elliot Kelly started the sand box project and Dan McGreal joined second semester. After completing the preschool sand box, they decided they wanted one for the elementary as well. The students looked at a lot of spots and struggled to find a flat spot that would not flood. Mr. Wiley and the Central LEAD students Blake Hunt and Aaron Fangman were working on the school garden and they wanted to reduce the size to make it more manageable. This led to the idea of making part of it a sandbox. Students from both classes helped to make it a reality. Elliot and Dan worked with Dave Gibney from Moyna Materials and Bob Wiedner to get the sand donated, delivered and moved. Moyna Material donated the sand for both the preschool and elementary school sandboxes. Today was the day to present it to the elementary to play in it! It’s safe to say, they are happy with the newest #ClaytonCountyBEST project!

Wednesday in Makerspace some of Mrs. Kremer's students made donuts. The students learned how yeast works to make the donuts raise and how to deep fat fry these yummy treats.

Central Community recently held a Daddy/Daughter Dance. This was a student led event by Isabella. She worked alongside Mrs. Orr to raise money for Camp Courageous. This was a project done in Central LEAD class, where each student had the opportunity to come up with ideas for a project that they would like to work on. Isabella wanted to do a dance party! After some brainstorming it was decided to host a Daddy/Daughter dance. The daddy/daughter dance was held on February 25th with 50 dads/special guest & daughters in attendance. There was an admission of $5 per dad to get in with all proceeds to go to Camp Courageous. Isabella was instrumental in coming up with the idea, while Mrs. Nichole Orr helped bring the idea to fruition. Amazing teamwork by these two. Huge shout out to Mrs. Orr for her time and effort along with our other volunteers. Today, Isabella was able to present the money raised to Charlie Becker from Camp Courageous.

Today, “Workshop Wednesday” took us on a little field trip to thINK Custom for some behind the scenes action in the print world. After Travis Hekel’s graphic design visit to our classroom a few weeks ago, the students created their own personal logos and were excited to see them come to life on t-shirts with owner, Ryan Burke!! Such a fun and new experience for them.

Mr. Bergan, Central’s Industrial Tech teacher was awarded the High School’s Masonic Lodge Teacher of the Year for the 2022-2023 school year. “Mr. Bergan has engaged in intense professional learning the past two summers, culminating with earning the title of Welding Inspector. Only 75% of the people pass the course and earn the certificate. Mr. Bergan has completely transformed our Industrial Technology program the past 4 years, both in physical appearance and in curricular offerings. This year Mr. Bergan transitioned to an Advanced Manufacturing program (previously it was a Construction Trades program). In addition to building his program, Mr. Bergan has built strong, meaningful connections with numerous students both in and out of his classroom.” - Mr. Reinhart Congratulations Mr. Bergan on being named this year’s Masonic Lodge High School Teacher of the Year!

Mr. Stramer, a 5th Grade teacher at Central, was awarded the Elementary’s Masonic Lodge Teacher of the Year Award for the 2022-2023 school year. "This year is unique as I get to work with Mr. Stramer as his principal and as a parent. Mr. Stramer has excellent classroom management, and the kids really enjoy him as a teacher. Little things like going to recess and eating with your students are something Mr. Stramer does that other teachers do not. Mr. Stramer clearly understands the importance of building relationships with his students both in and out of the classroom!” - Mr. Trenkamp Congratulations Mr. Stramer on being named this year's Masonic Lodge Elementary Teacher of the Year!
