Meet Jered Finley - Central Community School District, School Board President!

As we near the end of another school year, the entire month of May is filled with times of honor and observance. Today kicks off “School Board Recognition Month”. This month is a time designated to show support for your local school board.
The Central CSD School Board is made up of seven locally elected public officials. These individuals volunteer their time and make a commitment to help provide direction for the education for our school district. Over the next week, we would like to introduce some of our current board members to you. A big round of applause for our current board members - Jered Finley, Michael Whittle, Josh Embretson, Dr. NiCole Dennler, Courtney Scherf, Suzy Hilgerson and Jared Funk. Thank you for all the tough decisions that you make that impact the health and safety of our school community, while continuing to prioritize our student needs and education.

If you have a child in our art program, you’re bound to find their artwork around town this month!🖼️
•1st grade - Care Centers
•9th-12th grade - The Collective
•K-12th grade - Rural Heritage Museum

Mrs. Bergan's 6th grade class video chatted with a "certain" someone in South Korea this morning. We learned some basics in reading Korean and other cultural aspects of the region. Thanks for staying up to chat with us on a 14 hour time difference.

Great school leadership and student achievement go hand-in-hand. From our students, all the way through administration, the power to set goals and reach success is empowered by the leadership skills displayed. Successful school systems start with impactful principals… Inspiring and making a difference. At Central, we are very fortunate to have two distinguished principals leading the way!
Thank you, Mr. Trenkamp and Mr. Reinhart for not only providing guidance for our staff and students, but truly making a difference!

Due to potential weather, Central’s Promenade will be held in the school auditorium this evening. Doors will open at 4:40 pm and Promenade will begin at 5:15 pm

In science, 4th graders learned how to represent different elevations of landforms by modeling, making & investigating topographic maps.

Today during the 6th grade Second Step lesson students heard from six 7th grade students about what it is like to be in Junior High. Owen Burke, Kynzlie Mullins, Kristy Shaffer, Blair Scherf, Treyson Young, and Tyce Zittergruen shared their experience of being in 7th grade and answered questions the 6th graders had about the move into Junior High School.
During the 8th grade Second Step lesson today students heard from seniors Tate Berns, Sam Frailey, and Carly Kluesner about their experiences in high school. These three seniors talked about the importance of attendance, grades, extracurricular activities, and planning for their future.
These students did an amazing job in talking with their younger peers, sharing wisdom, and providing guidance.

Central Seniors and Senior Families - The countdown is on! Here are some important dates to keep in mind as we look to celebrate many times throughout the month of May.

Monday night the Central Torch Chapter of the National Honor Society inducted 5 new members. These inductees are recognized for their scholarship, character, service and leadership. The students are Tate Berns, Keaton Klingman, Keeley Curran, Gavin Holst, and Savannah Orr. The speaker for the night was Danielle Shea. Mrs. Shea has volunteered many hours to groups and organizations here in Elkader to make "Elkader a better place for all of us to live". Danielle provided a very inspiring message to the students about the importance of volunteering and how it positively impacts the community we live in.

Central 5th/6th grade students selected for honor choir had an amazing performance in Oelwein last night. Such a fun group!

Central will be hosting a baseball game in Elkader for the first time since 2010!
Mark your calendars now and make plans to join us for some War Eagle Baseball!
